What Is a Class C RV Camper?
A Class C camper is generally considered the Goldilocks of RV motorhomes. They're not as big or as intimidating to drive as large diesel-pusher motor coaches, but they're not as small as a Class B camper van RV.
The result is a spacious home on wheels that can sleep multiple people with a full RV bathroom and a driving experience that feels like an SUV or truck.
You can always tell a Class C RV apart from other motorhomes by noticing the "cabover" section, which is the part of the RV that extends out over the cab with the driver and passenger seat. In most Class C RVs, this cabover section has a bunk for an additional sleeping area, but some layouts have cabinets for extra storage here.
Types of Class C RVs
There are two main types of Class C RVs: those that we'll call "standard" models, and Super Class C RVs. A standard Class C is built on a cutaway chassis, like the Ford E-Series or Ford Transit, for smaller models. This is the most common Class C RV type.
A Super C RV is built on a Super Duty or Freightliner chassis and has a front end that looks like a semi truck instead of a van. These Class C diesel motorhomes have a lot of power and strength for driving through mountain passes, and they also tend to be equipped with luxury-level amenities.
Benefits of Class C RVs
Why would you want to choose a Class C over another RV type? Here are some benefits of Class C motorhomes for sale.
- RV access on travel days without having to get out and walk around
- Shorter length means more campsite options
- Better fuel economy than most Class A RVs
- Full bathroom rather than a wet bath
- Can sleep up to 6 people or more, depending on the model
- Comfortable driving experience, ideal for new RVers

FAQs
What is a Class C motorhome?
A Class C RV is a drivable motorhome that features a cabover section. The presence of a full cabover section is how you can differentiate a Class C RV from a smaller Class B motorhome – and also what makes it easy to tell apart from a Class A RV.
What is the smallest Class C RV?
There are several small Class C motorhomes, with the Thor brand offering several miniature models, like the Thor Pasadena SE19, measuring just 19 feet long. You definitely don't need a CDL for these tiny campers. In fact, you don't need a commercial driver's license for any RV in the state of North Carolina, but one may be required in other states.
How tall are Class C motorhomes?
Class C RVs generally aren't higher than 12 feet tall, while some can be as short as 10.5 feet. The dimensions typically provide around 6 to 6.5 feet of interior headroom. Length varies greatly, from 19 to 45 feet. Class C RVs are around 8 to 8.5 feet wide, which gives you plenty of space around you on the highway in a standard 12-foot lane.
How much can a Class C RV tow?
The towing capacity of a Class C RV depends on the model and size of the camper. Many have the ability to tow cars, small boats, trailers with ATVs, and other gear. It's not uncommon to see Class C RV towing capacities between 3,000 and 8,000 pounds. Our team at Riverside Camping Center can help you learn more about the specifications of models on our lot.

Over the years we have purchased 2 different motorhomes from Riverside. One used and the other new. The experience was great. No high pressure sales and our salesman Tim Mercer was very nice, especially helpful and knowledgeable. He actually made the experience a pleasure. We have used their service department on two occasions and were very pleased with the repairs.
purchased a used NuCamp teardrop in October 2025. Our salesperson Luis O-N was fantastic from the start. Reviewing the features, ensuring we could safely tow the trailer and working hard to close the deal. Good place to do business.
